What a free vehicle check tells you
A vehicle check pulls the official DVLA record for any UK registration and shows you the things that actually matter before you drive, buy or insure a car. You get tax status and expiry date, MOT status, make, colour, fuel type, year of manufacture and engine size. For anything sold from around 2015 onwards you also get CO₂ output, Euro standard and ULEZ compliance status.
Most people run this check before viewing a used car — you want to know the car is taxed and has a live MOT before you even drive to see it. If the tax or MOT has lapsed, or the details do not match what the seller told you, that is useful to know immediately. Fleet operators use it to confirm the basics on vehicles they are about to add to their fleet, or to spot-check vehicles they are responsible for.
