What if your MPG improved?

Regular tyre pressure checks, smoother driving and removing roof racks can all nudge MPG up.

Enter distance and MPG above to see the saving.

All figures are estimates based on UK imperial gallons (1 gallon = 4.54609 litres). Official MPG figures are optimistic — real-world van consumption is typically higher. Fuel prices default to HMRC advisory rates (June 2026) and should be updated to your actual pump price. This tool is for guidance only and does not constitute financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

How the calculation works

The calculator uses UK imperial gallons throughout. Given a distance and MPG figure, it divides distance by MPG to get gallons, multiplies by 4.54609 to convert to litres, then applies your fuel price to get the total cost.

Cost per mile is the total divided by distance, expressed in pence. For 300 miles at 40 MPG and 160p/L the result is £54.56 — roughly 18.2p per mile.

The savings panel lets you model what a modest MPG improvement would save across the same journey or annual mileage. Even a 5 MPG gain adds up quickly on high-mileage commercial vans. Traknova's fleet tracking tools give you the data to spot which drivers and routes are burning the most fuel.
