Teltonika Tracker Showing Offline: Step-by-Step Diagnosis
Traknova
A Teltonika device showing offline in the Traknova dashboard means the platform has not received data from the device for a defined period. The cause is almost always one of four things: a data connection issue, a server configuration error, a power problem, or the device being in deep sleep. Here is how to work through each one.
Traknova integrates natively with Teltonika hardware. See the Teltonika integration page for setup guides and configuration files.
Step 1: Check device power and LED status
Before using Configurator, do a basic physical check on the device.
Teltonika FMB devices have LED indicators that give you immediate status information:
- Red LED flashing: device is on but has no GPS fix.
- Green LED flashing: GPS fix acquired.
- Yellow/orange LED: GPRS activity.
- Blue LED (on devices with Bluetooth): Bluetooth activity.
If no LEDs are on, the device has no power. Check the fuse, the power wire connection, and the ground connection.
If the green LED is flashing but the device is still showing offline, the GPS is working but data is not reaching the platform. Move on to the Configurator checks.
Step 2: Open Teltonika Configurator and check GPRS status
Connect the device to a Windows PC via USB and open Teltonika Configurator. In the Status section, look at the GPRS Status field.
The GPRS status will show one of several states:
- Connected: the device has a mobile data connection. If this shows and the device is still offline, the server address is wrong.
- Not connected: the device cannot reach mobile data. Check the APN and SIM.
- Registration denied: the SIM is not accepted by the network. Check the SIM with your provider.
Step 3: Verify server connection settings
Navigate to GPRS settings in Configurator. Confirm:
- Domain: should be the Traknova server address. A common cause of offline status is the device still pointing to a previous platform’s server or Teltonika’s own demo server.
- Port: must match the port Traknova expects. For Codec 8 devices (FMB120, FMB125, FMB140, FMB920) this is typically 5027. For Codec 8 Extended (FMC130, FMC880) it may differ.
- Data sending period: if set to a very high interval (10 minutes or more), the device may appear offline in the platform if the platform’s offline threshold is shorter than the sending interval.
Save any changes and restart the device.
Step 4: Review the Records buffer
In Configurator, the Records view shows the data packets the device has accumulated but not yet sent to the server.
If the Records buffer is filling up, the device is generating GPS data but cannot send it. This confirms the connection or server configuration is the issue, not the GPS or device hardware.
If the Records buffer is empty and the device has been powered on for more than five minutes with the vehicle outside, check whether the GPS antenna is properly connected. On FMB120 and FMB125 models the antenna is internal. On FMB140 and FMC series it is external and needs to be correctly connected.
Step 5: Check deep sleep settings
Teltonika devices can enter deep sleep based on inactivity timers or ignition state. In deep sleep, the device does not communicate with the platform.
Navigate to Sleep Settings in Configurator. If deep sleep is enabled, check the wakeup conditions: motion detection, ignition signal, or a time-based wake.
For testing purposes, disable deep sleep temporarily, save, and restart the device. If the device comes online shortly after, sleep mode configuration was the issue.
Step 6: Check the APN
In GPRS settings, confirm the APN is correctly entered. A blank or incorrect APN prevents the device from establishing a mobile data connection even with a valid SIM.
For the correct APN for your SIM, contact your SIM provider or check our general GPS tracker offline guide for common UK APN settings.
Fix sequence summary
- Check LED status and confirm device has power.
- Connect to Configurator and check GPRS Status.
- Verify Domain and Port in GPRS settings.
- Review Records buffer for accumulated data.
- Check APN is correct.
- Check Sleep Settings and disable for testing.
- Save configuration and restart device.
Traknova and Teltonika
Traknova’s GPS tracking platform integrates with the full Teltonika FMB and FMC range. If you are still seeing the device offline after working through these steps, book a demo or contact Traknova support with the device IMEI and we can check what data, if any, is arriving at the platform.
