Ruptela Tracker Offline in Fleet Software: What to Check

Traknova

A Ruptela device showing offline means the platform has stopped receiving data. The most common causes are a server configuration error, an APN or SIM issue, or the device sitting in sleep mode. Here is how to work through it systematically.

Traknova integrates with Ruptela devices. See the Ruptela integration page for full setup documentation.

Step 1: Read the LED status indicators

Ruptela devices use LED indicators to communicate their current state. Reading these first saves time before connecting to a computer.

Typical Ruptela LED patterns:

  • Solid green: GPS fix acquired.
  • Flashing green: searching for GPS signal.
  • Solid red: GPRS connected to network.
  • Flashing red: GPRS activity (data being sent or received).
  • No lights: device has no power.

If the device shows no lights at all, the power connection is the first thing to investigate. Check the fuse on the power line and confirm the ground wire is making solid contact with a clean metal surface.

If the device shows GPS activity (green LED) but no GPRS activity (no red LED), the device has a GPS fix but cannot connect to mobile data. The issue is the SIM, APN, or server configuration.

If both GPS and GPRS lights are active but the device still shows offline, the data is going somewhere but not reaching Traknova. Check the server address.

Step 2: Connect to Config Tool and check the connection log

Connect the device to Config Tool via USB. Navigate to the diagnostics or log section.

The connection log shows whether the device is attempting to reach the server and whether those attempts are succeeding or failing. Look for:

  • Repeated connection failures: the server address or port is wrong, or the network is not allowing the connection.
  • Successful connection but no data: the protocol or codec configuration may not match what the platform expects.
  • No connection attempts: the device has no network registration. Check the SIM and APN.

Step 3: Verify the server host and port

In Config Tool, navigate to GPRS settings and confirm the server host and port.

The server address must be the Traknova hostname or IP for Ruptela devices. If the device was previously on another platform, the old address will still be in the configuration.

The port must match what Traknova’s Ruptela integration listens on. If you are not sure of the correct values, check the Ruptela integration page or contact Traknova support.

A wrong port is a particularly easy error to miss because the device will show as attempting to connect, but all attempts will time out or be refused.

Step 4: Check APN and SIM status

In GPRS settings, confirm the APN matches your SIM provider. A blank APN or an APN from a different provider prevents mobile data from connecting.

Common UK APN settings:

  • EE: everywhere
  • Vodafone: web.vodafone.co.uk
  • Three: 3internet
  • O2: mobile.o2.co.uk

After confirming the APN, verify with your SIM provider that the SIM is active and has had recent data sessions. If the SIM shows no data sessions in the provider’s portal, the APN is wrong or the data plan is not active.

Step 5: Check for sleep mode

Ruptela devices can enter sleep mode based on inactivity timers. In sleep mode, GPRS is inactive and the device will appear offline.

In Config Tool, check the power management settings. The wakeup trigger is typically based on the accelerometer or ignition input. If the vehicle has been stationary for an extended period, the device may be sleeping.

To test: disable sleep mode temporarily in Config Tool, save, and restart the device. If the device comes online, sleep mode was the cause. Review the sleep thresholds and wakeup sensitivity to make sure normal vehicle movement reliably wakes the device.

Step-by-step fix sequence

  1. Check LED status: no lights means no power. Check fuse and ground.
  2. GPS LED active but no GPRS LED: check APN and SIM.
  3. Both LEDs active but still offline: check server address and port.
  4. Connect to Config Tool and review the connection log.
  5. Verify server host and port in GPRS settings.
  6. Confirm APN is correct and SIM is active with data.
  7. Check sleep mode settings and disable for testing.
  8. Save, restart, monitor platform.

Ruptela integration with Traknova

Traknova’s GPS tracking platform integrates with Ruptela’s commercial vehicle range. If the device remains offline after these steps, book a demo or contact Traknova support with the IMEI and model. We can check whether any data is arriving at the platform and help pinpoint the cause.
