Jimi IoT / Concox GPS Tracker Not Updating Location
Traknova
Jimi IoT and Concox are related brands producing a range of compact GPS trackers widely used in UK fleet and rental operations. Jimi IoT devices are sometimes sold under the Concox brand, and the hardware and configuration methods are closely related. If your JM-LL01, JM-VL01, or JM-LL501 has stopped updating its location, here is where to start.
Traknova integrates with Jimi IoT hardware. See the Jimi IoT integration page for setup guides and configuration files.
Most common cause: APN not set for UK SIM
Jimi IoT devices are manufactured and often pre-configured for international markets. When deployed in the UK with a UK SIM, the APN needs to be set specifically for the UK network operator.
If the APN is blank or set to a non-UK default (such as CMNET for China Mobile), the device will not be able to establish a mobile data connection regardless of whether the SIM is active.
To update the APN on a Jimi IoT device, you can either:
- Use the Jimi IoT configuration platform or app.
- Send an SMS configuration command directly to the device SIM.
The SMS command format for Jimi IoT devices is typically: APN,[apn],[username],[password]# followed by the admin password. Check your specific model documentation for the exact syntax.
Common UK APN settings:
- EE:
everywhere - Vodafone:
web.vodafone.co.uk - Three:
3internet - O2:
mobile.o2.co.uk
For IoT or fleet SIMs, use the APN your SIM provider specifies.
Device in deep sleep
Jimi IoT devices, particularly battery-powered models like the JM-LL01, are designed to spend most of their time in sleep mode to extend battery life. In deep sleep, the device does not send location updates.
Deep sleep typically ends when the device detects movement via its internal accelerometer. If the movement threshold is set too high, the device may not wake reliably.
To check sleep status:
- If the device has not updated for an extended period and the vehicle has not moved, sleep mode is the likely explanation.
- If the vehicle has been moving but the device is not updating, the movement threshold may be misconfigured or the device may not be waking correctly.
You can send a wake command to some Jimi IoT devices via SMS. Check the documentation for your specific model.
Wrong platform IP address
Jimi IoT devices need to be configured with the correct server IP address and port to send data to the right platform. Factory defaults will point to Jimi IoT’s own servers, not Traknova.
If the device has not been reconfigured since purchase, it is sending data to Jimi IoT’s servers. To redirect it to Traknova, send the server configuration command via SMS or the configuration app:
The command format is typically: SERVER,[protocol],[ip],[port],[interval]#
Refer to your specific model documentation for the exact format and the Traknova platform IP and port for Jimi IoT devices.
SIM data not active
A SIM that has never had data enabled, or a pay-as-you-go SIM that has run out of credit, will prevent the device from sending any data even if the device is functioning correctly and the APN is right.
Confirm with your SIM provider that:
- The SIM is active.
- A data plan is enabled.
- The SIM has not hit a data cap or been suspended.
Step-by-step fix sequence
- Confirm the APN is set correctly for your UK SIM provider. Send the APN update command via SMS if needed.
- Confirm the server IP and port are set to the Traknova platform settings. Update via SMS command if needed.
- Confirm the SIM is active with data enabled.
- Check whether the device is in sleep mode. Send a wake command or trigger movement.
- Review the movement sensitivity settings to ensure the device wakes reliably.
Jimi IoT and Traknova
Traknova’s GPS tracking platform integrates with Jimi IoT hardware including the JM-LL01, JM-VL01, and JM-LL501. See the Jimi IoT integration page for configuration details.
If the device is still not updating after these steps, book a demo or contact Traknova support with the device IMEI and we can check whether data is arriving at the platform.
