Concox GPS Tracker Not Connecting: How to Diagnose and Fix

Traknova

Concox is a Chinese GPS hardware manufacturer whose devices are widely used in UK fleet, rental, and security tracking applications. The GT06N, GV20, and GV600 are among the most common Concox models found in UK fleets. When these devices fail to connect, the cause is almost always one of three things: the server IP has not been updated from the factory default, the APN is blank, or the SIM has not been provisioned for data.

Traknova integrates with Concox hardware. See the Concox integration page for setup guides and supported models.

Most common cause: server IP not updated from factory default

Concox devices ship from the factory configured to connect to Concox’s own servers. When you deploy the device on a third-party fleet platform like Traknova, the server address must be updated.

This step is frequently missed, particularly when devices are purchased through resellers and installed by third-party fitters who may not be familiar with platform configuration. The device powers on, gets a GPS fix, and starts sending data, but all of it goes to Concox’s servers rather than Traknova.

To update the server address on a Concox device, you send a configuration command via SMS to the device’s SIM number. The format for GT06N and similar models is:

SERVER,0,[ip_address],[port],0#

Where [ip_address] is the Traknova server IP for Concox devices and [port] is the corresponding port. See the Concox integration page for the correct values.

For GV20 and GV600 models, the command syntax may differ. Refer to the specific model documentation.

APN is blank or incorrect

Concox devices manufactured for international distribution often ship with a blank APN field. A blank APN means the device cannot establish a mobile data session, even if the SIM is active.

Set the APN via SMS command. The standard format is:

APN,[apn_name]#

For SIMs that require a username and password (uncommon for UK networks but required for some IoT SIMs):

APN,[apn_name],[username],[password]#

Common UK APN settings:

  • EE: everywhere
  • Vodafone: web.vodafone.co.uk
  • Three: 3internet
  • O2: mobile.o2.co.uk

After sending the APN command, the device should restart and attempt to connect. Allow two to three minutes before checking the platform.

SIM not provisioned for data

A SIM that has been inserted but not activated for data will register on the voice network but will be unable to send any device data. This is more common with SIMs from third-party suppliers who activate voice and data separately, or with pay-as-you-go SIMs that have not been set up for data.

Confirm with your SIM provider that:

  • The SIM is active.
  • A data plan is enabled on the SIM.
  • The SIM has not exceeded a data allowance or been suspended.

You can test this by checking whether the SIM registers on the network (it will, even without data) and asking the provider to confirm recent data sessions. If there are no data sessions, the plan is not active.

Checking current device configuration

On most Concox devices, you can query the current configuration by sending an SMS command to the device:

STATUS# or PARAM# (varies by model)

The device will reply with its current server address, APN, and network registration status. This is useful for confirming whether previous configuration commands have been applied correctly.

Step-by-step fix sequence

  1. Send a STATUS or PARAM command via SMS to check current configuration.
  2. If the server address is Concox’s default or blank, send the SERVER command with Traknova’s IP and port.
  3. Check the APN setting. If blank or incorrect, send the APN command.
  4. Confirm the SIM is active and provisioned for data with your provider.
  5. Wait two to three minutes after configuration changes for the device to restart and reconnect.
  6. Check the Traknova platform for incoming data from the device IMEI.

Concox hardware on Traknova

Traknova’s GPS tracking platform integrates with Concox hardware including the GT06N, GV20, and GV600 series. See the Concox integration page for the correct server configuration values and model-specific command syntax.

If the device is still not connecting after these steps, book a demo or contact Traknova support with the IMEI and model number.
